JAY BELL was born in Allentown, PA in 1971 and was raised in Long Branch, NJ. The inspiration for his art comes from the emotional, physical and metaphysical connection that he has with the land and sea that borders his vision as he travels around California. Jay utilizes traditional Western conventions and formats to explore contemporary themes around migration, destination and transition. Jay looks for universal points of connection and engagement in his vibrant paintings and installations. For the past 15 years, Jay has also served in an executive capacity at the nation’s largest community development corporation, TELACU (telacu.com) overseeing the development and construction of community assets, including schools, parks and libraries.
